Poker is a card game played by two or more players. Each player has “chips” to bet with, and they are dealt two cards. There are then five community cards, and the aim is to make a best 5-card hand from these with a combination of your own two cards and the community cards. If you bet and all of your opponents fold, you win the pot (all of the chips that have been raised so far) without showing your cards. There are a variety of Poker variations, but the basic principles are similar.
When it is your turn to bet, you can either say “call” to match the amount of the previous player’s bet or raise it further. Alternatively, you can fold. When you have folded, you cannot bet further and must remain out of the betting until the next deal.
Each player must also pay a small or large blind, depending on the rules of the game. These forced bets help to give all the players something to chase and prevent them from always folding early on.
